Custom Finish

HIKSTIK.COM, LLC can provide you with a variety of custom finishes. From natural-grained and unfinished, to a finish with a tough, hardened, triple application of Clear Shield™, to stained to your personal color specification. hikstik's finish choices are only limited by your needs and creativity. We are proud to use Minwax® products for our finishes. Using Minwax® products give us many, many options to provide you with beautiful wood stains and colors that are durable, fade resistant, and weather resistant.

Natural

Natural means just that; au natural -- no stain or clear coat finish at all. A "hikstik au natural" has gone through the entire handmade process as any other hikstik, but stops short of applying a protective finish. Your natural hikstik will have gone all the way through the hand-sanding and will be ready for play or ready for you to sand further into your own personalized grip or apply your own finish or engraving design.  An unfinished hikstik will gain personality as it colors naturally from everyday use.

Clear Shield™ (CS)

Our most popular finish (above) is a clear-coated hikstik with three applications of Minwax® Clear Shield™ over the unstained natural wood. Clear Shield™ is a hard, clear finish specially formulated to protect wood against nature's toughest conditions. We are convinced this is the finest clear coat product available. The advanced ultraviolet absorbing formula reduces the sun's graying and fading effects. Clear Shield™ forms a hard, protective barrier against rain and moisture and its special oils allow the finish to expand and contract with the wood as seasons and temperatures change. hikstik applies three coats of Clear Shield™ to each wood lacrosse shaft. Between each application we sand, by hand, using fine grit automotive grade abrasive paper to ensure your wood lax shaft has the smoothest possible finish without being tacky or slippery. Wood Stain

hikstik uses Minwax® Wood Finish™ stains that are available in 22 wood tone colors. If you want something more colorful, but that still has the wood grain showing through, we use Minwax® Wood Stain that is available in 68 contemporary and traditional tones. At your option, we can stop the finish process right here; after staining and before applying any clear coat product. This allows you to complete your wood lacrosse handle with your own choice of clear finish; or just play with a stained shaft that will continue to color naturally through repeated use.

Stain & Clear Shield™ (CS)

A completely finished hikstik has a wood tone stain or colorful coat of Minwax® Wood Finish™  and three coats of Minwax® Clear Shield™. This combination enhances the beauty of the natural wood grain and completely protects it with a hardened encasement of triple-layer, ultra-strong clear coat. Minwax® has 22 wood tones and 68 color tones available. This finished combination will provide you a lacrosse shaft that will be the envy of all those on the field.
